What Are The Causes of White Vaginal Discharge?

Also known as leukorrhea, normal vaginal discharge is considered as fluid and bacteria produced by the cells of the vagina. It is a regular and normal occurrence that changes over the course of the reproductive cycle.
There are different reasons why white vaginal discharge is caused.
- Normal reproductive function: Due to the reproductive functioning of the body, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of menstruation.
- Birth control: Consumption of birth control is also a factor that can alter your hormones, resulting in increased white discharge.
- Infections: Another cause is a yeast infection in the vagina that results in white discharge, itching, and burning in and around the area of the vagina.
- Pregnancy: For many women, when they are pregnant, they tend to experience white discharge that is thicker and creamier than normal.
- Bacterial vaginosis: Often found in women of childbearing age, bacterial vaginosis is also a cause of the white vaginal discharge.
