High-Risk Maternal Pregnancy

With a time of enlightenment, joy, and happiness pregnancies are also related to carrying high risks. The correct definition of a high-risk pregnancy is that it carries increased health risks for the woman, the unborn baby, or both.

There are several medical health risk factors that indicate a high-risk pregnancy.

  1. Increased maternal age: A woman with advanced maternal age, especially over the age of 35, has a higher chance of developing a high-risk pregnancy
  2. Existing medical problems: Pre-existing medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, lung problems, and others play a big role.
  3. Obesity: Being obese during pregnancy is the biggest risk factor, leading to several other problems like preeclampsia, injuries, and C-sections.
  4. Blood problems: Blood disorders like sickle cell disease increases the chances of being at risk of UTI, fetal loss, preterm labor, and others.
